Band is done. We ended fifth in the state, which is way respectable. Especially considering that in my four years, the only other time we've even made it (top ten) we finished 9th. One of our philosophies when we're using someone else's space is to leave it in better shape than you found it. And really, that's what us seniors have done. My freshman year we were awful. Like, really really bad. We ended around 17th, I think. And there are less than 20 bands in our flight. Yeahhh. My sophomore year we ended 9th, my junior year we ended twelfth. And this year--5th. I'm really quite pleased. We've worked our asses off, we had good support staff, and our show was solid in both writing and execution. We deserved this. It was especially nice because when we walked on to the field, we were ranked at seventh, and we came out with fifth. Two places up helz yeah!

It's sad, though. I'll probably ramble about this more later when I am less omgtired, but although I am very ready for the season to be over and to be able to relax and, y'know, have a life again--I am so, so sad that this season is in all likelyhood my last one. Band has been something I've been doing for years, and basically every single one of my best friends are in band. It's really like a family, and it's a community I'm going to miss like hell.

But now I am going to nap and then shower because ewww stinky. hahahah.

So, we had our first competition yesterday. Actually, we had our first two. And three hours of rehearsal beforehand. Yeah. I hurt so much I can't even move. Standing up is a huge, huge ordeal. GOD I HURT SO MUCH. :(((((

We did well, though. I don't actually know how we did at our first, because we left for the second before awards, but we felt good. And, that competition isn't actually in our division, so it doesn't affect our standings for State. We usually do pretty well at that one--it's a good warm up competition, so to speak. Our second, which did count, we did quite well at. We came in second, with the band in front of us being one of the bands recognized as consistently really really good. They've been in the top three in the state since like 2000. And, one of our "rival" bands, sort of--a band that is usually quite close to us, scorewise, and with whom we trade spots in the ranking with regularly? We beat them by ten points, which is HUGE in marching band. That shows how much we've been improving, because we're usually at the same level they are--they were better than us last year--and now at our first competition we're that much ahead of them. We've been working really hard this year, we have a great program, and everyone has had a whole lot of passion and intensity, right from the get go. As soon as we clean it up a little more, I think we're really going to have a good season. I mean, we don't even have our final number on the field yet. We just did a stand and play. And we were at that level. Things can only get better from here. I hope. *knocks on wood*

1. PDAs in the band room are not nearly as cool as people seem to think they are. Seriously. That's what the practice rooms are for, guys.

2. Competition last night (we hosted! It was at my school!) was fab. We did really well and raised our score five points. :) Go band.

Band is good, math is bad, Penni is vaguely obsessive about her gpa. Nope, nothing new in my world. ;) Although I did call my history teacher sir on accident today. Heh.

Ahhhhh! Much with the business! I've been spening a lot of time at band lately, but, I guess it's paying off because we had our first competition last night and totally kicked ass. We came in first, and swept the caption awards, winning all of them (best marching, best drum majors, best percussion, best color guard) except for best music, and we only lost that by .1 of a point! And, best drum major? We got best overall, in both our division and the division below us.

ETA: Speaking of drum majors. Hahah. It was also homecoming this weekend. And our drum major is also homecoming king. I don't know why people always assume that band is this nerdy thing. Yeah, a lot of nerdy people do it (*coughmecough*) but there are also a lot of popular/preppy/good-looking in general people in it, at least at my school. YAY BAND!! :)

hollaback to [livejournal.com profile] nadia_skye--it was good to see you. Better luck next time, yeah? :(

Oh, and Lost on wednesday? OMG. SO GOOD. AHHHHHH. That's about all I've got, heh.
