Ahhhhh! Much with the business! I've been spening a lot of time at band lately, but, I guess it's paying off because we had our first competition last night and totally kicked ass. We came in first, and swept the caption awards, winning all of them (best marching, best drum majors, best percussion, best color guard) except for best music, and we only lost that by .1 of a point! And, best drum major? We got best overall, in both our division and the division below us.

ETA: Speaking of drum majors. Hahah. It was also homecoming this weekend. And our drum major is also homecoming king. I don't know why people always assume that band is this nerdy thing. Yeah, a lot of nerdy people do it (*coughmecough*) but there are also a lot of popular/preppy/good-looking in general people in it, at least at my school. YAY BAND!! :)

Oh, and Lost on wednesday? OMG. SO GOOD. AHHHHHH. That's about all I've got, heh.

We had our first competition last night as well! *nodnod*

We didn't do as well though, we're class A, so we go against Mattawan (and Caledonia, but blah, Mattawan) and they win a lot. They won everything in our class last year, this year we actually won one thing (best drum majors) and we were six points better then we were last year I'm told (we had an 87.1 I believe this year.) Sounds like you guys did awesome!!!

Oooh, you were at the same competition I was at, though, but since you guys are so much bigger we were already gone by the time you played. I would have liked to stay to watch some of the other bands (you guys, and I have friends in mattawan, too, and Jenison is in our flight in the other circuit so we have to compete against them and lose every time omg and I would have liked to watch.) but the band was leaving, and so my ride was leaving, and yeah, what can you do?

Good job on the drum major, and the six points! :) Oooh, I forgot to say something about our drum major. Hahah. lemme go update the post.

Yeah, we played at 7:30 I believe, I know a bunch of bands had already gone by the time we played. We were second in our class though, so we got to watch like all of class A, and AA, it was neato. OMG Jenison won everything but either one, or two things, I can't remember what, and then they won best overall. It was sad. Lol yes'm, can't be left behind. Our bus driver threatened to drive off and leave people behind... because they were slow or whatever.

Definitely! [your edit] is so true. A majority of the really popular people at our school are in marching band. A lot of the not popular, but not nerdy ones are in it too. We're not all nerds (of course I still am but... *shrug*) woot.

I know! There's such a stereotype about band=nerdy, but while that's true for some people, it's not all encompassing at all.

Band is totally NOT a nerdy thing! (And I'm not saying that because I was in it- I actually quit after freshman year for... well, basically I kind of sucked, and I wanted to sing.) But anyway, all of the smart people are in band. It's true. And in my grade, they were all of the popular people. So... go figure. But we didn't have marching band. :(

And by the way, I kind of have to thank you for something you did indirectly- I had wanted to see QaF for a long time, but all of your posts made me want to even more. Last weekend I finally got around to starting. And basically, without checking some of your back posts, I would have never known where to start. So. Thank you SO SO SO much.

The only problem is that now I'm totally obsessed and my homework isn't getting done and I'm barely sleeping. It's really funny, actually. About a week in, and I'm in the third season already. THANKS!!!

All of the people basically that I want to hang out with are in band, or just around band so much that it feels like they're in it (we have groupies! It totally rocks! *g*)--all the smart people, and the funny people, and a decent smattering of really good looking people, and people who are passionate about what they do. SO MUCH LOVE OMG.

But I feel you, on the obsession part. I got into it right before I had three AP exams...and yeah, that wasn't really very helpful. Heh.

OMG YES. I was hooked from the very first episode. I adore it. Well, most of it. I'm getting pretty sick of Ted. Last night I finished 304 (only skipping 220, which I was just able to get my hands on, but I read the TWoP review so I know what basically happened). T/E is just kind of grating, even though I love Emmett. And I now COMPLETELY understand why there are so many people who ship B/J. Because... just BECAUSE. WOW.

I pretty much HAVE to be spoiled for things, because I'm so impatient- So I pretty much know what's coming up. And because of that, I feel the need to get through it all even faster. But then I'll have to wait forever while I get money saved for the dvds.

Right before APs? That must have been awful. Sitting there trying to pay attention to the boring exams when there are better things to be doing and seeing.

I really like the team aspects, and I think it encourages people--I know there have been days when I've been like "ehhhh, I don't want to write" but then I do, because I don't want to let the team down, but with the whole people dropping mid round and stuff--I don't know. Okay, this is totally off topic, but you already know how very awesome I think your band is. :)

You know when you're reading your flist, and sometimes the entries are kind of close together and it can be confusing, telling where one leaves off and another starts? Well, there's an entry from gay_sex_tips right above yours on my flist, and I totally thought this line was the beginning of your entry:

congrats to you! yeah, i detest the judging aspect of this stuff...more on that later, and no, it isn' just because my band didn't score well. because we were super close (ie .2) from the 5th place, .4 from the 4th place, and i think .6 from the 3rd place. Class BB was really close. anyhow. later. see you at english in a little bit!

Wahhhh, that sucks. I think there's been some kind of icky wank in our circuit...we used to have different directors, and one of them was on some special board, and his brother was high up too, and we always got really good scores, even when we did poorly. Then, we fired those directors, mostly because everyone hated them, and then everyone on our circuit started hating on us, and we'd get really bad scores even when we did well. Like, we'd sweep competitons in your circuit, and then come in dead last in our circuit, even if we preformed at the same level.

It's getting better now though, since it's been four years and I guess the "sting of rejection" or whatever is getting less bitter.
