I just watched Brokeback Mountain. dfskljdfkljkdjlfdfkjllfdjk. I can barely type, because my hands are shaking and shit. Sobbed all the way through the second half. ALL THE WAY. SOBBED. ldsafkljdfskjldfkjldflkjdfkljdfsjklasdfjkldsfkjlsdfjklasdfljka. I just finished it like five minutes ago and I'm all sdfjklfuiortio4tiewfijfsdkjfdsjksdfjklsdfaWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. God, it was so good, omg. Like, jklsdfkjldfjkldfs. No words. The scene with the shirts? And inside each other? the scene from my icon? I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE I WAS CRYING SO HARD. AHHH THE ANGST WOE I'm still all flaily and teary and crap. My heart is a little too full, so it keeps pushing tears out of my eyes to give it more room, I think. :((((((

Also, both Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were really, really good. jkdfslkdslkajsd. I totally bought it. And sometimes, with movies with actors I'm so familiar with, I don't think "Oh, that's Ennis and Jack" I think "Oh, that's Heath and Jake". Not with this one. It was Ennis and Jack all the way. Like EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER . in the whole movie was completely believable and stunningly acted.

And, for me--Heath Ledger has been my baby since A Knight's Tale. That was the first movie that I watched obsessively and the first movie star that I developed a full-blown crush on, to the point of spending hours searching and printing pictures of him. And it's such a thrill for me to see how much he's matured as an actor, and how good he is. Oh, Heath baby. So much love.

"I wish I knew how to quit you"

AHHHWOE!! :(((

*flails*

WAHHHH I'M REALLY FULL OF WOE!

I just saw this on Friday night! I wasn't quite as upset as you were/are, but I thought it was very beautifully sad! Sandra and I had a mini-discussion about it- if you go to my LJ it's the most recent post.

I was pretty tired when I saw it, so I don't think that my brain processed everything properly, but it was soooooo sad, especially those scenes that you mentioned in particular. And you icon? Love it, and it's mega crazy full of woe.

*hands you a tissue* It'll be okay. ♥

The tent sex! I was mentally going "ahhh- aaaaaaah! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Oh man, in real life that would have hurt so bad! Seriously, since when is "let me spit in my hand" foreplay? Sandra said that she's seen in 3 times- she said that the whole freakin' movie up until they have sex is the foreplay, which I guess kind of makes sense. But still, yeah, I was definitely thinking "WTF?" to infinity when that happened. Maybe I've gotten too used to slashfic, where there's at least some kind of preparation involved no matter how eager they are!

I haven't read the short story, but I know what you mean, about the R/S fics. R/S was actually my first OTP when I entered the fandom, and they were all so perpetually sad, even if they were happy. Just because you know that Sirius fell through the veil and I don't think that there's a shot in hell that he's coming back. Even the AU fics with a crack-ifide explanation for him being back don't help. :(

But yeah, back to the point, that movie is so good, but so sad and wonderfully angst and woe filled.

Saw it on Sat.

I was quite concerned that it would be an overly pretentious/cliche to the point of campy "romantic tragedy," and the movie did not play into the hands of my concern. It went its own direction, and said to hell with the rest.

My only issue was the tent!sex scene.

That scene... ok, I saw it with a group of about five or six people (all female) and well, we just did NOT see that coming. Jack pulled Ennis' hand around him, and I thought, "aww, they're going to subconsiously cuddle and wake up confused" but then they woke up and started punching each other and then full out humping. O_O WTF?

Then again, I do not have the mind of a gay man. Maybe there were "obvious" signals they had been sending to each other beforehand that we didn't pick up on.

Did that happen in the short story?

Yes, I just read the story up to the scene in question. My thought was that the translation from words to video changed the way the scene is interpreted. Even if you don't "see it coming" in the book, Jack's move is way more obviously "will u hav sex wif me?" than what in the movie looks like "I need a hug, I'll be slick and pretend I'm asleep." Correspondingly, book!Ennis' reaction is "WTF? Oh, ok. I'm top!" and movie!Ennis is all "what are you doing? You queer! no! I don't love you and want your children...wait, that's right, I haven't gotten any for a several months either -- bend over Jack!"

Or I could be making it overly vulgar in a subtle attempt at amusing myself. *shrug*

Have you read the short story? Someone has put it here. Go read it RIGHT NOW. Then go read This fic by [livejournal.com profile] moony. SO GOOD!

I was mixed about how I felt about the movie. There were scenes that were PERFECT, but I felt like Jake and Heath lacked chemistry in a lot of their scenes together. Basically... both Jake and Anne BOTCHED their accents... and that really threw me out of the story a lot. I MEAN! It's just not that hard. I can say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Heath and Michelle's performances. GUH! They were amazing!

The shirt scene? PERFECT
The scene where Ennis holds Jack from behind? PERFECT
The scene where Alma confronts Ennis about the trips? PERFECT
The opening scene? PERFECT

I know. Just all of it! I agree completely! Oh, my bleeding heart! And then I was watching the Golden Globes, and every time BBM won an award, they would start playing the theme music again, and I would get teary all over again. :( The part with the three ascending chords, you know? God, so sad. :(

Brokeback is from a collection called "Close Range" and then there is another book that is the last of the Wyoming stories. Not all about Gay Cowboys, but all good in their own right. She also wrote "The Shipping News" which is just fantastic.

Ah, man, I bawled too. Then I had to get up to go to the bathroom towards the end when I was really going at the crying. So, of course, there were a ton of people in the halls and the bathroom and I'm walking around with my make-up all over my face looking like someone kicked me. XD I was all butthurt the entire day after seeing it too. I love the movie, I just really shouldn't see it in public. XD
