Jan. 19th, 2005 05:37 pmI did that quiz that everyone on my flist has done, about the Harry Potter alter-ego. And I got my results, and the first two sentences read as follows: Your alter ego is Hermionie Granger. Your one intelligent witch.
AIRasg'iah'g! Maybe this is just me being a grammar Nazi again, but your instead of you're literally makes my fingers clench up. My. ABSOLUTE. BIGGEST. pet peeve. I don't mind the occasional typo, but the person who wrote this quiz made that mistake repeatedly(In ways like "Your not very tolerant of stupidity.") And I hate it.
< /rant>
In other news, I was reading the NYTimes in my email this afternoon, and I saw this blurb:
Freeing Sex Slaves: A Year Later
What has happened to Srey Neth in the year since Nicholas D. Kristof purchased the freedom of the Cambodian prostitute? With an interactive feature.
An...interactive feature? About sex slaves? *snerk*

Date: 2005-01-19 11:23 pm (UTC)I know. Grr. Drives me absolutly up the wall. And it's so easy! If you mean you are, say you're. If you don't, say your. How is that hard to mess up?
Hah, I didn't actually click on it to see what the interactive feature was. It just made me laugh.

Date: 2005-01-20 01:17 am (UTC)On that comment because it's my default and I'm lazy. It's my default because there is a ridiculous, cracktastic story behind it (here), and because Viggo is teh pretty, and because it's neutral colors and emotions. Like, I couldn't have WTF, or a Happy!, or a Great Job icon as my default, because what if I wasn't posting a WTF or Happy! or great job comment? And, the black and white means it's not annoyingly bright or blinky.
Ramble much?

Date: 2005-01-20 01:48 am (UTC)a) yeah, i'd put you as hermione. i'm padma!
b) *puts head in hands* *takes head out of hands and bangs on table*
ummm...bangs HEAD on table, that is. stop having a sick mind.
the 'your' / 'you're' bit really bugs me, too.
that NYtimes article? i don't know about the interactive feature, but i read the article, and it was rather interesting. the preceeding articles on that same subject were also good (i think they are from throughout this last year?) and i think are definitely worth your looking at them.
i might just have to go checkout that feature though...
*grin*
i love the nytimes.
