Oct. 1st, 2006 10:23 amSo, we had our first competition yesterday. Actually, we had our first two. And three hours of rehearsal beforehand. Yeah. I hurt so much I can't even move. Standing up is a huge, huge ordeal. GOD I HURT SO MUCH. :(((((
We did well, though. I don't actually know how we did at our first, because we left for the second before awards, but we felt good. And, that competition isn't actually in our division, so it doesn't affect our standings for State. We usually do pretty well at that one--it's a good warm up competition, so to speak. Our second, which did count, we did quite well at. We came in second, with the band in front of us being one of the bands recognized as consistently really really good. They've been in the top three in the state since like 2000. And, one of our "rival" bands, sort of--a band that is usually quite close to us, scorewise, and with whom we trade spots in the ranking with regularly? We beat them by ten points, which is HUGE in marching band. That shows how much we've been improving, because we're usually at the same level they are--they were better than us last year--and now at our first competition we're that much ahead of them. We've been working really hard this year, we have a great program, and everyone has had a whole lot of passion and intensity, right from the get go. As soon as we clean it up a little more, I think we're really going to have a good season. I mean, we don't even have our final number on the field yet. We just did a stand and play. And we were at that level. Things can only get better from here. I hope. *knocks on wood*

Date: 2006-10-01 02:50 pm (UTC)p'well did well also...i saw the scores this morning, and they were near the top in everything. which does NOT coincide with how much various members have been telling me that they kinda suck (and observers...rofl, sagar). anyway, i was pleased.

Like, this morning, I could not move--getting out of bed reduced me to tears, it hurt so much. :(((((((((((( Now, I can move...but I still don't want to. :\

Date: 2006-10-01 07:01 pm (UTC)but i ended up never seeing you...
we lost to northview. it was really weird - i barely knew their band, and usually we beat them, but we lost. i'm kind of upset - i'm section leader and had been telling these girls to fix a stupid diag our whole rehearsal and they wouldn't listen to me and screwed it up in the competition...
but enough of my complaints.
good luck to your band! it sounds like you guys are doing really well.
