Frankenmix for June!

Basically, each month [livejournal.com profile] calikali puts out ten prompts for songs and anyone who wants to play can, so I encourage all of you to give it a try! It's pretty fun. :)

I'm also trying out a new upload host, box.net--let me know what you think. I like it because you can remove your files when you want, and not before, and also because those downloading the file can listen to the song first and decide if they like it or not.

# A song for quitting your job. OK Go - Get Over It
(Had it up to the gills / makes you cry while the milk still spills / Ain't it just a bitch / What a pain / Well it's all a crying shame / What left to do but complain / better find someone to blame.)

I was almost going to do Magnetic Fields - I Don't Really Love You Anymore, but then it was just too much of a breakup song, instead of a quitting song. But this one, this is a pretty bitter giving up kind of song, so I thought it worked.

# A song for committing a crime. The 5678s - Woo Hoo
(Non-instrumental runner up: Franz Ferdinand - I'm Your Villain)

The woo hoo song is from Kill Bill and is totally the song to play over a double time montage of a few guys robbing like 40 different houses. :)

# A song for grooving on the subway. Ben Folds - Get Your Hands Off My Woman
(You are drunk and surly / In Latino lover mode / We all know what's on your agenda / You've broken the code / oh, I've got no right to lay claim to her frame / She's not my possession / Get your hands off my woman, motherf*cker!!)

Ahahah. Oh, Ben Folds. ♥ It's especially funny if you know what he usually sounds like, which is, ahem, quite a lot more mellow. Hee.

# A song for being the hero. The Return of The King, from The Return of The King
(Non-instrumental runner up: Into The Fire, from The Scarlet Pimpernel)

No one, but no one does sweeping epic glory like Howard Shore.

# A song for taking an unexpected road trip. Anberlin - Autobahn
(And we're driving just as fast as we can / and we're racing to outrun the wind / It's just me and you and you and me so wild eyed / so young, bright eyed and free)

I don't have my license (mostly because I really hate driving), but this song makes me want to get it (and also forget that I really hate driving)

# A song for cooking a five-course meal. Richard Galliano - La Valse A Margaux (Non-instrumental runner up: Chanticleer - Resonet In Laudibus (Orlando di Lasso)

OK, so the non-instrumental is still kind of pushing it, but, what can I say? Cooking fancy makes me want fancy sounding music. And the first one especially is absolutely perfect.

# A song for making the world your stage. Hugh Laurie - Puttin' On The Ritz
(With due expediency/puttin' on the Regency)

Ahaha, this song is so funny and cute. ♥

# A song for drinking the last glass of wine. Jason Mraz - Sleeping To Dream
(I'm dreaming of sleeping next to you / I'm feeling like a lost little boy in a brand new town. / I'm counting my sheep and each one that passes is another dream to ashes / and they all fall down. / And as I lay me down tonight / I close my eyes, what a beautiful sight / Sleeping to dream about you)

This song is both a little bit...odd, as one might be after large quantities of wine, and a good night song, a good song to listen to before bed. So, I thought it worked well.

# A song for grand and/or ridiculous romantic gestures. Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark
(Love of mine some day you will die / But I'll be close behind / I'll follow you into the dark)

Err. That's definitely a grand AND ridiculous. Sounds good...in theory, not so much. This isn't a whole lot better than the ancient killings of women alongside their husbands if the man happened to die first, except in reverse. Hmm, Death Cab. Hmmm. The song is really lovely, though--sweet and delicate and tender. ♥

# A song for seducing your favorite celebrity. Fiona Apple - Slow Like Honey
(You moved like honey in my dream last night / Yeah, some old fires were burning / You came near to me and you endeared to me / But you couldn't quite discern me / Does that scare you ? I'll let you run away / But your heart will not oblige you / You'll remember me like a melody / Yeah, I'll haunt the world inside you)

This song is slow and, appropriately, seductive. Fiona's voice is low and heady, and so is the song.

# A song for confessing your unrequited love. Aqualung - Tongue Tied
(I'm tongue tied / waiting / hoping and praying / lying beside you / longing to touch you)

This song is heart-achingly confused, and that bitter kind of hopeful, when you wantwantwant something that you're almost certain you're never going to get.

# A song for dancing the night away. Benny Goodman And His Orchestra - Sing Me A Swing Song (And Let Me Dance)

Yay, Benny. This song is super swingy (I know, you never would have guessed, right? :P ) and very fun to dance to (another shocker, huh? Heee)

Ahahaha, you can actually see the link now. Hah. That explains why no one was downloading this one. Heh.

Let me know if you download anything, yeah?
