So I got spoiled badly for HBP last time around. And I'd really like to not repeat that this time around. I've heard that there are spoilers floating around, scans of the epilogue. I'm...kind of seriously considering staying offline for the next week. Thoughts?

If you really really want to avoid spoilers, you're probably going to have to not only go offline but not watch TV etc. There have been spoilers in news media and stuff already. It may actually not be possible this time short of going nowhere, getting the book via amazon (nd wear earplugs to the door, and locking yourself in your room for the duration.

And yes, there are epilogue scans floating around, though of course whether they're real is up for debate. Heh.

I don't go to any HP communities. It's the only safe way because trolls will post in comments or try to spam you. I hardly read comments if I can prevent it. I've also blocked any people who aren't my friends to comment on my LJ. It's the only safe way, you have to completely shut yourself off from HP communities (but think about it, it's only for the next five days).

My internet hasn't been working so I haven't had much of a chance to get spoiled (knocks on wood).

Good luck! You a still talk to me, I won't say anything!

I'm not running and hiding from the internet, but I am going to try and be careful in hopes of not being spoiled. When HBP came out I kind of wanted to be spoiled, so I kind of went out in search of spoilers. But this time around, book number 7, I want to be completely unspoiled.

I would say the worst comms I read that would be prone to spoilers are ohnotheydidnt (lol at the appropriateness of your icon, hee) and, to a certain degree, ljsecret. I'm not avoiding them completely (how will I get my celebrity gossip without ONTD?), I'm avoiding the comments on posts in those comms like the plague.

How the heck did people get scans for the epilogue? Isn't it like forbidden, especially all the security surrounding the 7th book? Hmmm...

Good luck! Last time I didn't stay offline, but I avoided newspapers and news sites, because LJ people were actually a lot better about spoilers than "official" news. I know someone who was spoiled by a newspaper feed back then...

mmhmm, i'd say put up a message for the people flist and then just keep away from all the things like the news and hp comms, etc.

I am also REALLY scared of spoilers--especially since I know I won't start READING until the plane takes off next Sunday morning. I fear a big banner with the eding splashed all over it hanging off some building in Central London. EEEP!

But, I trust MY flist to be cool about it. I'm gonna be around eljay for the long haul.

I don't know if you've already enacted some sort of temporary lj-exile and are incommunicado, but i sent you writemore scores via email yesterday. I'll send them again, with a direct link to the community, I guess, and you can trust yourself not to go wandering around the rest of eljay.
