I think I agree. I mean, in so many countries people work so hard to be able to go to school or send their children to school, even just to elementary school. And not only do we get thirteen years of free education, in these cases people are actually being PAID to go to school. That just strikes a bad note with me.
I know what you mean, but at the same time aren't college scholarships kind of like that to some extent? I mean most people don't go have extra, but some do and get checks back and stuff!
I would say that they aren't the same, because to attend college, one must pay. Scholarships are a way of helping a student to fulfill a requirement. Public education is free. Already, public education is a gift, and these schools are handing the students cash along with that. To me it feels like someone is saying "Oh, here, have an ipod! Oh, you don't want it? :((( PLEASE TAKE IT! You'll like it! You still don't want it? Here, if I give you 20 bucks will you take it? Please?" :\\\
Yeah I agree it's weird, but we live in a pretty materialistic society, where money will give many people the drive that they would otherwise not have.
Pah! At least they're not giving forty lashes to those with less than stellar attendance...?
