I'm leaving for New Orleans tomorrow morning, for about ten days. I'll probably have a little internet access while I'm there, but not a lot, and not regularly. I'm going to a book conference with my parents. It should be pretty nice--they have meetings and committees to go to and be on and stuff; I have to lay by the pool and read, work on my tan, go to the convention floor and pick up free books, etc. :D

But, yeah. I'll talk to everyone when I get back. Love and kisses to you all.

It's so good! Coffee and beignets! [livejournal.com profile] bloodybrilliant took me when I visited. It's right downtown in the French Quarter. :) I love New Orleans. The city has such a cool feel to it.

Oh, you poor thing... You have to lay by the pool and read and get all bronzey... That's a shame, it really is... I get to work and not swim and not get tan- jealous? :P

I finished PoT!!!!! *tear* It was really great, but I do feel a strange sense of dissatisfaction, as you said. Heh. We'll have to talk about it after you get back! Or, if you can take incoming calls for free, if you're ever bored I can call you! I don't know how you'd let me know I can call you, but whatev.

Anyway, have fun! Soak up the local culture!!!

(By the way- both your Kermit icon and the 'brb' tag made me lol. :P)

To Employees and Friends of Cafe Du Monde

We opened the Cafe Du Monde on decatur street on
Wednesday October 19th.

Our mail order department is open for orders. You can visit us online at http://shop.cafedumonde.com or call our toll free number 1-800-772-2927.

It's been more than three months since Hurricane Katrina attacked our city. We are still trying to make contact with many members of the Cafe Du Monde team. If you are an employee of Cafe Du Monde please E-Mail us (by clicking on the Employees link below) to let us know that you are O.K. and fill us in on your future plans.

To everyone that placed an Internet order from August 27th to today we are pleased to report that your package is on the way. For those of you that placed an order by mail, I'm sorry to report that as of yet we have not received the bulk of our mail. It is starting to arrive a few pieces at a time, but our main post office was damaged and no one at the temporary post office can confirm when the bulk of our mail will arrive. If you would like to speak to a representative regarding your order, please feel free to call 1-800-772-2927.

Finally, to the hundreds of you that have phoned and written to us in the last six weeks expressing your concern and support, the Fernandez family would like to thank you. The City of New Orleans, including Cafe Du Monde, will bounce back. The first three weeks following the storm were filled with shock and awe at the power of Mother Nature. The next three weeks were spent on clean up and restoration. You never know how exciting electricity can be until you are without it for a month. Looking ahead, more time will be needed for rebuilding. We know that many members of the Cafe Du Monde team have lost their homes and will need time to rebuild their lives. Some parts of New Orleans were less affected than others. Fortunately, the French Quarter was one of those areas and life is starting to get back to normal. More French Quarter attractions are opening every day and by the end of October we believe that the vast majority of businesses will be open. So please spread the word that Cafe du Monde is back and would love to have visitors return to enjoy all the sights and sounds that make New Orleans such a wonderful place to live.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Employees

I'm pretty sure most of it's been rebuilt at least to a functioning level... I visited in January and, while we didn't go to Cafe du Monde, we did go down into the French Quarter area, and it... well, some places were better off than others. I know the whole aquarium got hit pretty bad and almost none of the animals there made it. The Cafe du Monde website doesn't say anything to indicate it's gone, though. *fingers crossed* :\
